Mark 1:21-28: With Authority
Mar 1, 2026 • Robby Ballmeyer
In our culture that rejects expertise and authority, we often forget that authority is real and inescapable. When Jesus taught in the synagogue at Capernaum, people were amazed because He spoke with His own authority, not quoting other rabbis like the teachers of the law. He demonstrated this authority by casting out a demon with simple words, showing power that even demons recognized. The demon called Jesus the Holy One of God, a title that connects Him to Aaron the high priest, Samson the judge, and Elisha the prophet. Jesus embodies all these roles perfectly and deserves absolute authority over every area of our lives, not just our Sunday morality but our entire existence from finances to relationships.
