Ephesians 4:25-5:2: Life in the Spirit
Paul's letter to the Ephesians reveals that Christian behavior isn't about following rules but reflecting our transformed identity in Christ. After establishing what God has done for us, Paul shows how our lives should demonstrate this transformation to the world. He uses the imagery of changing clothes to describe putting off old patterns like lying, uncontrolled anger, stealing, destructive speech, and bitterness. Instead, we put on truth-telling, righteous anger management, honest work, life-giving words, and forgiveness. This transformation matters because the world can't see God directly, but they can see how we live together as His people. When we imitate God's love through sacrifice and forgiveness, our communities become previews of God's kingdom that draw others to Christ.
